Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" feat. Jess Glynne - Single Review

The UK always gets the good stuff first... it's not fair! Officially released across the pond in January 2014, electronic group Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" featuring the exquisite vocals of Jess Glynne, quickly shot to the number one spot on the charts, becoming the fastest-selling single of the year. The synthpop track is now barely making its mark in the U.S., currently sitting nicely in the top five of the iTunes main chart.

Supported by lovely violins and piano, along with house-inspired synths, the latest UK track to dominate the U.S. radio airwaves is ultimately a color-by-numbers love song, but sung with an immense level of conviction and promise. The vocals of Glynne certainly carry the bright and cheerful electropop track, however, the talents of each Clean Bandit member should not be ignored. It's the perfect pairing of vocal and instrumental talent coming together at the right time.

"Rather Be" sounds like the musical direction pop sensation Adele should be taking for her upcoming third album, Glynne's vocals, at times, even rival those of the "Somebody Like You" songstress. But, the power of the latest sensation is the calming environment the song provides. Singing of a desire to stay by the side of her current flame, Glynne insists there is no one else in the world she would rather be. "If you gave me a shot I would take it, shot in the dark but I'll make it," the vocalists admits on the catchy chorus, which enhances the overall energy of the single.

The new found success of the electronic masterpiece could just be a future one-hit wonder attributed to a current trend, think "Somebody That I Used To Know" or "Too Close", but in the end there are many intriguing layers to Clean Bandit and their recent hit. "Rather Be" is an uplifting, inspiring love song that focuses an equal amount of attention on the award-worthy vocal performance and the supporting production and instrumentals. Expect the track to be a staple on radio airwaves for months to come!
