STYLE FILE : MALE INSPIRATIONS. JULY 2010

Right, since I have examined my female style icons, I thought I would have a look at the men who has inspired me! Starting with :
Manson. I was about 15 when I got into Marilyn Manson. While at first he inspired me in a literal sense. As in I became a goth. Started wearing white and black make-up and what have you. I realised there tonight just how he inspired me in other ways.
For starters :
1 - I knew nothing about the wonderful world of fetish before I got into Manson. I quickly became interested and understand and love the beauty of such a world. PVC, leathers and restraints. Torture garden and Nimneach in dublin. I loved every bit of it. Nothing interests me more then examining the sick and the twisted within this world. I acquired a collection of rubber things which I still wear in and out of the house. I fell into a world of corsets and make believe with leather.....and I'm still lost there.
2 - The eyelash whores would never have been possible. Without the inspiration of Manson and his make-up. Seeing that you could move beyond what you thought possible and use the face like a giant canvas. Manson has directly inspired some of the Eyelash Whores most outrageous make-up displays
3 - Costume and adventure - Seeing that not only can you use your face as a canvas. You can use your body too.
4 - The leather trouser. I am obsessed with finding the perfect leather trouser at the moment. Obsessed.
5 - Boy / girl - I love that at times Manson played around with different looks to confuse fans and on lookers. I loved it.
I love that he was not afraid to wear suspenders, corsets and platform heels. While others thought it made him look a bit strange. I thought it was beautiful. I still think men wearing corsets and make-up are beautiful. I admire that it takes a lot more guts for them to do so then it does me....
Also, epic tattoos.
Jethro Cave. Nick Cave's son. How cool? Has a casual 90's grunge look which I admire. Works a leather jacket like it's no one's business! I love my leather jackets. I have two. One vintage 80's one which is worn in and puffy at the back with a nipped in waist. The other is  a pvc and leather mix with just the right amount of buckles and zips to make me feel more then a little bit bad ass. The only downside is : it sounds awful when you walk!!!!!!
Also,
Jethro rocks the one side shaved look which I love. I am aware he is naked with make-up on in the above shot. But who cares! He has done campaigns with some major labels and just manages to look the right side of dirty and messy!!!!

Round sunglasses. Back when I was 15 I had a pair with colored lenses. (it was the 90's after all) and I wore them everywhere. I was obsessed with 60's fashion. Men's fashion. I loved the style of round sunglasses. Not every pair suits me. As I have a crap face shape! But I do try. If you scroll through the posts you can see the new pair I bought. Not quite yellow or pastel blue. But I think an older compromise from me. I also love that Lennon also rocked the army jacket. I just re-bought an old German army jacket. I had one when I was 15 and wore it to death. Over everything. I got an old one for 8 euro somewhere in the country and am slowly trying to wear it in. Which sucks because I think my new one is better quality then my old one.

I am a huge fan of both Dylan and the humble wayfarer. As you have no doubt seen on my previous postings. I am madly obsessed with them. No matter what direction I stray. I love mine. Limited edition wayfarers from Brown Thomas. Nice. I am dedicated to trying not to leave the house without them. So I admire all the shots I sifted through which featured Dylan rocking wayfarers inside and out.
I take a lot from Kurt Cobain. Like ripped jeans I am wearing a lot of right now. Although mine are ripped skinnies. I am looking for the perfect pair to rip into. I make the rips myself rather then buy them that way. It looks a bit too manufactured for my liking.
The epic grunge t-shirt. I love my t-shirt collection. My pick at the moment has to be grey one with an owl on it. I recently found it hanging out under a collection of band t-shirts and I love that for once. It's nothing to do with the ramones, nirvana, iron maiden or even prince. Or the cure. Its free from musical preference. And it looks amazing over my new lace boxers....
The oversized jumper. i am totally into this for next season. A lot of designers showed epic jumpers over maxi dresses tapping into the grunge look. I am going to be investing in a few massive jumpers in the coming weeks to prepare. Anyone in Dublin should check out Wild Child who are stocked up on amazing jumpers for around 45 euro.
